Hey Gang.
Will asked me to post "the making of" my first Hybrid car shoot so here ya go.
I had recently started using the Roto Light Neo and a Westcott IceLight to shoot luxury coaches and jets so I decided to try a complete car shoot with no flash...GASP!!!!!
I was a bit nervous since I always use by flashes and strip box modifiers for this and was not sure the LED's would be bright enough.
Only too a quick look through the camera after getting my Light Smarter set up with 2 LedGo 1200's and some spun on them as my main light to see this was going to rock.

My second light was a LedGo 1200 with some spun and barn doors to direct the light at the front of the car.

Next I set up a really cool little fresnel from LitePanels called a Solo ENG.
This thing is great since you can not only adjust the brightness but also the width of the beam so I used this to catch the front wheel and fender.

The last light I used was one of my favs. The Rotolight NEO.
This was behind the car to put a small splash of light on the back wall.

The interior shots are always challenging but I have a little trick which seems to work well.
I have a small light stand I use in the back seat to hold a white reflector against the roof (if it's not white).
A LedGo 1200 is put in the back seat pointing up at the reflector and spreads a nice soft light around the front seats and dash.

The beauty of all this is while I'm shooting the photos I can grab by gimbal with my GH4 attached and do walk around videos at the same time. YES!!!!!!

Two companies I'm shooting for are talking about making them mini commercials to help see higher end cars and including a rep talking about the cars.
The only problem I'm working on is not having the strip box modifiers.
The reason for those in particular is you can hide their reflection in the seem of the car body. The Light Smarter is a little on the large side to do this but workable and the light is great.
Thanks again Will for helping me with the switch to Hybrid Photography.
I couldn't be happier.
